The victory of PD, the fate of Albania
29 June - the great day of democracy’s triumph over rebellion
Our necessary victory
What will be avoided today will also have been proven in all districts of the unmatched model of democracy’s victory in these elections. A calm assessment of the past few days, and of the past few weeks, makes it clear that the overall climate in the country has become more ripe for the triumph of PD. If this great force of the Albanian heart and mind manages to overcome the traps and raids being carried out against it day and night, victory is fully deserved and certain.
To reach today, to the victory of PD in these final moments of the campaign, three things were needed: wisdom, willpower, and sacrifice. The first has been the wisdom needed to carry the country through such a dangerous course. High civic responsibility, patience, and rational argument are the clearest proof of a new level of civic emancipation achieved by Albanian society. The second has been the will not to fear either violence or the country’s overall destruction. This will has been proven before the eyes of the whole world by the massive human presence at all the recent rallies and gatherings. The third has been sacrifice. As the largest force and the most widespread across the country, PD has made an irreplaceable contribution to keeping alive the hope of Albania’s revival. Its sacrifice is the daily effort of thousands of people who believe that the country’s future cannot be built on rebellion, gangs, and ruin.
Our victory is necessary because it does not belong to one party alone, but to all Albanian society. It is the condition for the return of order, law, and trust in the state. A victory for democracy today would mean that Albania would finally break away from the path of adventure and arbitrariness and enter the path of a normal European state.
